There was no request. Discover showed us its current restaurant leave-behind for the sales force, and we thought we could make it work harder.
The leave-behind consisted of a black box filled with items that a restaurant could get free from Discover, like tip trays and waitstaff books. We developed a belly band, brochure and slip sheets that promoted the benefits of becoming a Discover merchant. The theme "unexpected" was used, because many restaurant owners are surprised to learn about all the perks that come with Discover Card acceptance.
The revised restaurant black box is being used by Discover nationwide. Feedback from the salesforce has been very positive.
