Convince Kemper agents of the value of selling to small businesses and provide them with marketing materials to support their efforts.

Raindance designed an innovative kit that housed a program brochure and samples of direct mail that the agents could send out to small businesses. We came up with a big dog/little dog theme to represent the agent (big dog) as a protector of small business (little dog).

In the initial test market, small business accounts rose by 35%, resulting in a national rollout of the program.

the request
There was no request. Discover showed us its current restaurant leave-behind for the sales force, and we thought we could make it work harder.

the dance
The leave-behind consisted of a black box filled with items that a restaurant could get free from Discover, like tip trays and waitstaff books. We developed a belly band, brochure and slip sheets that promoted the benefits of becoming a Discover merchant. The theme "unexpected" was used, because many restaurant owners are surprised to learn about all the perks that come with Discover Card acceptance.

The revised restaurant black box is being used by Discover nationwide. Feedback from the salesforce has been very positive.
